Maybe it's just some bad pot or some assembly issue, I don't know.ĭid you purchased it new or used, can you possibly replace that under warranty? I've never seen, it will be completely reversed as you've described. ![]() That's definitely weird, the front panel knob for HP volume control works entirely in analogue domain (so it isn't directly affected by the Mix Control settings). I guess it is possible to just keep working with this strange problem assuming there are no other sound problems, but I don't like the fact that I might blow out my eardrums one day by turning the volume to zero.Hi Guessworks, I guess it is possible to just keep working with this strange problem assuming there are no other sound problems, but I don't like the fact that I might blow out my eardrums one day by turning the volume to zero. I wonder what is causing this knob to do the exact opposite of its intended use? When turned all the way up I get little to no sound and when turned to 0 (minimum) the sound is cranked up to max. I have done as you said, but I run into the strange problem again: In this setting, the sound quality seems to be good (no treble-y sound or phase problems), but the headphones volume control knob is acting strange. MichalThanks for the detailed description. , why? It's meant just for recording of submix from MixControl back to some Core Audio application.Īt the first look, I don't see any obvious error at your MC screenshot. This will send signal from first two DAW (Core Audio) outputs directly there, so there isn't any chance to mix it with some other signal.Īt Ableton, you can set its audio outputs just to DAW 1-2.Īudio volume at headphones should be then controlled just by front panel knob. You can see Line Output 3 and Line Output 4 at the bottom of the routing pane, both has also headphone picture, which means, this is share output to both line 3/4 and headphone amp.Ĭlick to pull down menu and select DAW 1 and DAW 2 for Line Output 3 and 4 respectively. If you're outputting just to your headphones, then you can also completely bypass the DSP mixer. Thanks!try to set Loopback 1/2 to MIX 1 L/RĪnd any ideas on how I should route the Saffire MixControl to achieve my very simple setup? At the first look, I don't see any obvious error at your MC screenshot. I have tried tweaking the settings according to the manual, but I ended up having a headphone volume knob that was muted when turned to 10 and was full volume when turned to 0 - so I reverted to default settings and decided to ask in here instead before I did damage to my ears.Īny ideas on how I should route the Saffire MixControl to achieve my very simple setup? Any ideas what causes this?Īnd any ideas on how I should route the Saffire MixControl to achieve my very simple setup? The sound seems to be better than with the default settings though and the only difference seems to be this strange reversal of the headphone level knob. When it is turned to zero, it is very loud. When chosing the Mixing preset I get a strange problem also: When the headphone level is turned to max the sound is muted, when turned towards zero it gets louder and louder. I have tried changing the Routing Preset to Mixing which solves one problem, but creates another. This is a screenshot of my Saffire MixControl settings: I have read the Saffire manual and looked at several Youtube tutorials, but all the tips, tricks and guides seem to be about monitoring inputs, changing input routing and direct monitoring - all of which is completely irrelevant to me as I never use the inputs or line outputs on the device. With the Saffire, when I turn the headphone level all the way down and playback a song, I get a lot of output still when the level is at 0, I get a treble-y version of the sound and when the level is at 10, I get a slightly louder (2-3 dBs) and fuller sound but not close to the volume of what a level setting of 10 should produce. 0 meant no audio from the master, 10 meant maximum audio from the master. ![]() When I had the Scarlett ,I just installed the drivers, restarted, opened Ableton Live and every softsynth and audio file I would play in Ableton would come out the headphone output and I could control volume with the headphone knob. I am just a hobby musician who likes to play around with softsynths for a couple of hours a day. I don't use monitor speakers, I don't use instrument/mic inputs. Macbook Pro with Ableton Live -> Saffire Pro 14 -> Headphone output I have an extremely simple setup for my bedroom "studio": I just purchased a Saffire Pro 14 to replace my Scarlett 2i2 as I needed the extra USB port and my Firewire port was unused.
